What is the difference between PVC and Polyolefin Shrink Film?
Posted by Omni Group
What is PVC and Polyolefin Heat Shrink Film
Shrink Wrap also known as Shrink Film is a material made up of polymer plastic film. When heat is applied to the Shrink Film it shrinks tightly over whatever it is covering. Heat can be applied with a hand held heat gun (electric or gas) or the product and film can pass on a conveyor through a heat or shrink tunnel.
There are a variety of uses for Shrink Film. Manufacturers and businesses alike turn to Shrink Fim to protect and display their goods. A shrink-wrapped item in a store will remain clean no matter how many people pick it up and examine it. Shrink-wrapping also offers a psychological benefit to the consumer, creating an ‘untouched by human hands’ appearance that makes your goods look ‘factory-fresh.’
Shrink Film: the two most commonly used types are :
PVC Heat Shrink Film
PVC or Polyvinyl chloride was up until recent times before the release of Polyolefin, the most commonly used Shrink Film available. However it was never been allowed to be used within the Food Industry as it releases small quantities of hydrogen chloride into the air and carbon deposits onto the sealer. Proper ventilation is required when sealing PVC Shrink Film. PVC Shrink Film uses include: packaging boxes, CD and DVD packaging, software, small canisters, and other non-edible items.
Polyolefin Heat Shrink Film
Whilst Polyolefin is commonly more expensive than PVC Shrink Wrap, it has become the preferred choice for packaging products both edible and non-edible. Polyolefin Shrink Film is preferred for a variety of reasons including: fewer odors when sealed, provides a stronger seal and can be stored in a wide range of temperatures and does not harden and soften in different environments.
Applications include: toys, sporting goods, printed wrap, food and drink packaging, stationary and cards just to name a few.
Heat Shrink-Wrapping Equipment:
L-Bar Heat Sealers
L-Bar Heat Sealers are great for both forms of Shrink Wrap. These heat sealers have three sealing bars designed to make sealing centerfold shrink film easy and efficient. Within our range we have both manual for low to medium output operations and semi-automatic L-Bar Sealers for larger volume work.
Recommended for low output operations that are sealing 10 items or less per hour. Hand impulse Sealers come in two machine types :
– Round wire sealers are more expensive but are more efficient because of the ability to seal and cut in one motion.
– Flat wire sealers are more affordable, but do not seal and cut in one motion.
We offer three types of Shrink Film Heat Guns.
– One Handed Heat Gun : offers two adjustable speeds – suitable for general light packing.
– Shrink-A-Pack-Unit : designed for the smaller user like retail shops : small volume
– Pallet Shrink Gun : is an industrial gas fired heat gun used in Shrinking Pallet Tubing and Pallet Shrink Bags.
Ideal for medium to high speed output operations. Shrink tunnels come in a variety of sizes and dimensions and can be simply connected into a production line with a conveyor belt thats feed in and out. We recommend anyone wrapping more than 150 products per day to consider purchasing a Shrink Tunnel. Shrink Tunnels are used within the chemical, medicine, hardware, cosmetics, handicraft, stationery, electronic, food and textile industries.
An excellent option for wrapping shrink bags and poly bags high speed. We offer two types of foot sealers in a variety of widths :
– Flat Wire Foot Operated Sealers come with a flat sealing wire to seal a bag. Does not cut. They are an excellent option for poly bags.
– Round Wire Foot Operated Sealers allow users to seal and cut shrink shrink bags in one motion.
